Classroom privacy
Debate Room supports voting and discussion in 45-745 Ethics & Leadership.
School sign-in
Students enter their own school email from the instructor’s roster while voting is open. The classroom matches that email to the registered name, section, and team. This entry method does not verify mailbox ownership or physical attendance. Use only your own email. The instructor uses a separate private access link.
Participation and votes
The instructor can see roster emails and who submitted each vote. Other students cannot see your email, participation record, or individual ballot. Written feedback is available to the instructor after voting closes.
After class, the instructor can compare an absence list with recorded submissions and their times. Discrepancies are private review flags, not automatic misconduct findings. This comparison does not automatically remove votes or change published results.
Votes are saved for scoring and comparisons across debates. Results shared with the class are aggregate results. A submitted ballot cannot be replaced by signing in again or using another device.
Sessions and records
The classroom uses secure session cookies. Student sessions expire after 12 hours; the instructor can choose 30 days on a private device. Sign out ends the current session. New private instructor links can be reused until they expire after 48 hours. Anyone holding such a link can access the instructor workspace, so it must not be shared with students or posted in Canvas. Debate records remain available for course comparisons.
Contact your course instructor through the usual course communication channel with questions about your roster entry or classroom records.
